NAND-Trees, Average Choice Complexity, and Effective Resistance

چکیده
We show that the quantum query complexity of evaluating nand-tree instances with average choice complexity at most W is O(W ), where average choice complexity is a measure of the difficulty of winning the associated two-player game. This generalizes a superpolynomial speedup over classical query complexity due to Zhan et al. We further show that the player with a winning strategy for the two-player game associated with the nand-tree can win the game with an expected Õ(N √ C(x)) quantum queries against a random opponent, where C(x) is the average choice complexity of the instance. This gives an improvement over the query complexity of the naive strategy, which costs Õ( √ N) queries. The results rely on a connection between nand-tree evaluation and st-connectivity problems on certain graphs, and span programs for st-connectivity problems. Our results follow from relating average choice complexity to the effective resistance of these graphs, which itself corresponds to the span program witness size.

Parallel Generation of t-ary Trees
A parallel algorithm for generating t-ary tree sequences in reverse B-order is presented. The algorithm generates t-ary trees by 0-1 sequences, and each 0-1 sequences is generated in constant average time O(1). The algorithm is executed on a CREW SM SIMD model, and is adaptive and cost-optimal. Prior to the discussion of the parallel algorithm a new sequential generation with O(1) average time ...
متن کاملA method for analyzing the problem of determining the maximum common fragments of temporal directed tree, that do not change with time
In this study two actual types of problems are considered and solved: 1) determining the maximum common connected fragment of the T-tree (T-directed tree) which does not change with time; 2) determining all maximum common connected fragments of the T-tree (T-directed tree) which do not change with time. The choice of the primary study of temporal directed trees and trees is justified by the wid...

Background and Objectives: Recently, photonic crystals have been considered as the basic structures for the realization of various optical devices for high speed optical communication. Methods: In this research, two dimensional photonic crystals are used for designing all optical logic gates. A photonic crystal structure with a triangular lattice is proposed for making NAND, XNOR, and OR optica...

متن کاملParallel architectures for decision-directed RLS-equalization
Parallel architectures for decision-directed adaptive recursive least-squares (RLS) equalizers based on a QR-decomposition (QRD) using square-root free Givens-rotations are derived that allow very high throughput for broadband applications. We apply an algorithmic optimization that leads to the use of additional fast adder trees together with a re-timing of the required arithmetic components to...
